As part of ongoing engagement with young people, on December 15, VSMU Rector Alexey Chukanov met with members of the university team representing VSMU at the VIII International Student Surgery Olympiad.

On December 15, 2025, the interuniversity stage of the republican project "100 Ideas for Belarus" took place.

The VSMU projects presented at the competition are highly relevant and of great practical importance.

VSMU projects that received permission to participate in the ministerial stage of the competition include:

• "Creation of the digital DermaCalc Pro platform for calculating the area, depth, and volume of skin lesions in clinical practice" (authors: Maxim Los, Slavyana Bogushevich);
• "SarcScore application for early detection of muscle weakness" (authors: Olga Azarenko, Anna Antonysheva);
• "Virtual Patient" (author: Elizabeth Ivanova);

On December 13, 2025, participants of the VSMU project "Youth for Family Values: Family and Spiritual and Moral Traditions of Belarus" went on an excursion called "Five Temples – Five Destinies," which was developed by VSMU students. They visited the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in The Candle and the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Slobodka. Additionally, they took part in a charity event to clean up the territories of the temples and memorials of the Great Patriotic War located in these settlements.

VSMU students had the opportunity to see the temple in the village of Slobodka, which is identical to the temple that once stood on the territory of the Vitebsk Medical University and has not survived to this day, as well as other temples similar in architectural style. They engaged in conversations with local residents, learned about the history, architecture, and nature of the Vitebsk region, and discussed future travel routes in Belarus and new projects for the restoration of rural churches.

On December 11, 2025, chess competitions were held as part of the Spartakiad of higher education institutions in Vitebsk. Our university’s team secured first place.

The team included Ilya Zakharenko (5th year, General Medicine Faculty), Alik Barseghyan (2nd year, Stomatological Faculty), Nikita Chauser (1st year, Pharmaceutical Faculty), Vladimir Kulnis (1st year, General Medicine Faculty), Kristina Chicherova (4th year, General Medicine Faculty), and Victoria Lyashuk (2nd year, Stomatological Faculty).

The VIII International Surgery Olympiad was held in Novosibirsk, gathering representatives from 12 leading medical universities from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Lugansk.
