On July 11, 2025, Vitebsk State Medical University welcomed a distinguished guest – the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Ashok Kumar. The meeting took place within the framework of strengthening the strategic partnership between Belarus and India in the field of medical education and science.

The guest was welcomed by the University Rector, Alexey Chukanov, the Vice-rector of International Affairs, Denis Lits, the heads of the university's international departments: the Head of the International and Interregional Affairs Office, Elena Sharykhina, and the Head of the InternationalAffairs, Anna Pchelintseva, as well as the dean of the Overseas Students Training Faculty, Vyacheslav Pobyarzhyn.

The parties discussed the expansion of student mobility programs, including summer internships for Indian students at VSMU. Special emphasis was placed on attracting Indian applicants to VSMU. Additionally, the parties agreed to conduct joint online lectures and master classes with leading specialists from both countries. Mr. Ambassador expressed interest in implementing joint research projects, especially in the fields of pharmacy and biopharmaceuticals.

Ashok Kumar highlighted the importance of adapting students from India, noting the university's efforts to actively engage Indian students in scientific, cultural, and sports activities.

A visit of this level confirms VSMU's status as a key university for training Indian medical professionals in Belarus and strengthens the bridge of friendship between Belarus and India, which has been established decades ago. The combination of VSMU's academic traditions and India's scientific potential creates a foundation for breakthroughs in the medicine of the future.

As rector Alexey Chukanov noted: “We see concrete steps towards the implementation of joint projects – from student exchanges to the creation of innovative medicines.”
