On September 5, 2025, Vitebsk State Medical University was honored to host Rasul Bagirov, the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus. His visit turned the university into a platform for meaningful dialogue about global challenges and the vital role of healthcare professionals in the modern world.

During the meeting between Rector Alexey Chukhanov and Mr. Bagirov, as well as a subsequent discussion with students on the topic "The Role of Medical Education in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals," the rector highlighted Belarus’s successes in reaching these goals. He emphasized that these achievements are a result of well-planned state social policies and the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Health to improve the healthcare system and medical education in the country.

Alexey Nikolaevich pointed out that such meetings are especially important for students, as they help them realize their role as active members of society, contributing to the tasks set by the Head of State.

In his speech, Rasul Aliyev addressed several key issues: the place of medicine in the concept of sustainable development, the role of health within this framework, and shared his vision of the future of the medical profession. A special emphasis was placed on the humanistic component of medicine. "It is important not only to learn to be a doctor but also to be a human," – highlighted Rasul Bagirov.

His visit served as a bridge between theory and practice, reminding future doctors that their mission is to contribute to the well-being of their homeland.
