On September 17, Vitebsk State Medical University held a solemn event dedicated to the Day of National Unity. On this festive day, students and staff of the university gathered near the VSMU flagpole, along with honored guests: Gleb Lapitsky, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and General Director of the state institution "Vitebsk Culture Center," and Vladimir Plytkevich, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Belarusian Health Workers’ Trade Union.
The event began with the ceremony of raising the state flag of the Republic of Belarus. The honorary right to raise the national flag was given to: Lieutenant Colonel of the Medical Service Arseny Tsygankov; Kira Shuverova, a 6th-year student of the Faculty of General Medicine; Kseniya Karmanovich, a 2nd-year student of the Faculty of Pediatrics; Ekaterina Legchilina, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Dentistry and holder of the Francysk Skaryna scholarship; and Ekaterina Yurchenko, a 2nd-year student at the Faculty of Pharmacy and winner of the internet Olympiad in Latin.
Words of congratulations were addressed to the assembly by Dmitry Kuzhel, Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work at VSMU, and Gleb Lapitsky, General Director of the state institution "Vitebsk Culture Center."
The academic year began with pleasant news – the pop song studio “Tandem” was awarded the title of the People’s Amateur Collective of the Republic of Belarus. The certificate granting this title was presented to the group leader, Ekaterina Palagot.
Next, the winners of the republican essay contest “Achievements of Independent Belarus” were awarded.
For excellent academic performance and active participation in the university’s scientific, cultural, and social life, Rector’s Letters of Appreciation were awarded to the following students of the Faculty of Overseas Students Training: Anna Polekhina (Russian Federation); Sarut Haya Mohamad Khair (Canada); and citizens of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka – Prabagaran Sukirtan, Prathapasinghe Dulmini Pabasara, Hathurusinghe Arachchige Sachini Nisansala, Shiraz Fatima Shazrina, Fauz Fatima Sharani Shat, and Mohamed Nistar Shima Farvin.
The festive event was beautifully concluded with the song “Dobryya Lyudzi” (“Kind People”), performed by the members of the pop song studio “Tandem.”
