A revived story: excursion trip of VSMU staff and students to Polotsk district

ekskursiya Polotchina 01On November 1, 2025, the staff and students of VSMU embarked on a cultural and excursion trip to ancient Polotsk as part of the "Bells of St. Sophia" program.

Participants visited the renowned St. Sophia Cathedral, a gem of ancient Russian architecture, where they learned about the history of this unique monument. During the city tour, guests explored Polotsk’s main sights, including the Upper and Lower Castles, the complex of the former Jesuit Collegium, and monuments dedicated to prominent historical figures.

The group was deeply impressed by their visit to the Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery, one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries in Belarus. They also experienced the traditions of book printing at the interactive Printer's House, where everyone had the opportunity to try their hand as an apprentice. An equally captivating part of the trip was the excursion to the Museum of Medieval Chivalry, which showcases chivalric cultural traditions. At the Museum of Military Glory, participants delved into the heroic history of the region. Additionally, at the Museum of Traditional Hand Weaving of the Lake District, they learned about the region’s unique craft traditions.

Organized by the union committees of the university staff and students, the trip was executed at a high organizational level. It left all participants with many positive emotions and fresh impressions of Polotsk’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
