On November 24, 2025, Vitebsk State Medical University hosted a meeting of the university’s rector, Alexey Chukanov, with the leadership of scientific schools, scientific societies, heads of departments, and other interested parties.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues raised by the Head of State during his major meeting with the country's scientific community, held in Minsk on November 21, 2025. During that event, the President emphasized the importance of seriously and responsibly addressing topics related to scientific activities in the country, including university science.

The rector briefed the audience on the main theses of the President’s speech, the future development concept for the country's scientific sphere, and outlined the key requirements set by the President for the scientific community: effectiveness, practical orientation, and continuity between generations. Alexey Nikolaevich also shared the outcomes of the recent meeting at the Ministry of Health on these topics.

Vice-Rector of Research Elena Asiryan informed attendees about the current state and prospects of scientific activities at the university. She highlighted several issues that require close attention from both the university leadership and individual performers.

As a result of the meeting, measures were developed to strengthen these areas by increasing the practical focus of scientific work, attracting young talent to science, and developing key directions for the advancement of new diagnostic methods, medications, and medical care techniques.
