On February 13, 2026, Vitebsk State Medical University hosted a meeting dedicated to the Memorial Day of the Internationalist Soldiers. The event, held in the format of an open dialogue, brought together representatives of the administration, students, teachers, and veterans of military operations whose lives are connected with the Afghan war.

The guests of the event were reserve officers who have taught or are currently teaching at the military department of VSMU:

• Vladimir Vladimirovich Sirotko, retired colonel of the medical service, who headed the department from 1998 to 2006;
• Sergey Semenovich Trishin, retired Medical Service Lieutenant Colonel, senior lecturer;
• Vladimir Nikolaevich Vladimirov, retired medical captain, senior lecturer.

Speaking to the audience, they shared their personal memories of events from more than thirty years ago. They talked about the difficult daily realities of combat, the specifics of providing medical care under extreme conditions, and the price paid by Soviet soldiers for fulfilling their international duty.

During the event, students also performed poems and songs dedicated to the courage and heroism of the internationalist soldiers.
