In the rhythm of a national holiday: how winter was spent at the Vitebsk State Medical University

maslenitsa 01On February 19, 2026, the friendly community of Vitebsk Medical University celebrated Maslenitsa, a beloved festival marking the farewell to winter. The event brought together not only Belarusian students but also future doctors from around the world.

Every participant found entertainment to their liking: from traditional round dances and lively folk dances to truly heroic contests that tested strength and dexterity.

However, the main battle was a gastronomic one, unfolding between the faculties. The pancake-eating contest ignited a real explosion of emotions both among the competitors and the audience. At the end of the competition, the dormitory teams were awarded diplomas, and the student union delighted everyone with sweet prizes.

Throughout the holiday, the creative teams of the university’s student club entertained the crowd with musical performances. Culinary stations were open for all guests, where they could enjoy fragrant pancakes and warming tea.

The highlight of the celebration was the traditional burning of the Maslenitsa effigy. The bright flames symbolically banished the cold winter, making way for spring.

Maslenitsa at VSMU is a true symbol of international friendship and unity, proving that celebrating spring together is much more joyful!
