On February 23, our country celebrates Defenders of the Fatherland Day and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus — a tribute to courage and valor. Traditionally, solemn events dedicated to this important date are held at Vitebsk State Medical University, gathering students, faculty, and staff.

The celebration at VSMU Square began with the ceremony of raising the National Flag of the Republic of Belarus.

Alexey Chukanov, the Rector of the University, delivered a congratulatory speech.

"This holiday symbolizes the unbreakable bond between generations and is a deep expression of respect for those who safeguard the peace and tranquility of our homeland, Belarus. Being a defender of the Fatherland is an honorable duty that requires not only physical strength and courage but also steadfastness of spirit, responsibility, and love for your land. Many of you, having chosen the medical profession, also become defenders of the lives and health of our citizens," said Alexey Nikolaevich.

Honorary guests included Vladimir Plytkevich, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of Healthcare Workers' Trade Unions, and Sergei Tikhonov, Police Colonel and Head of the October Department of the Department of Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, both of whom congratulated the university staff.

The event concluded with a demonstration by an employee of the October Department's Security Service. A dog handler and his four-legged partner showcased the process of apprehending a mock criminal, demonstrating a high level of training and skill.

The celebration continued at the university with thematic platforms set up for all attendees.
