On July 10, 2025, Natalia Petkevich, Chairperson of the State Commission for the Supervision of the Admission Campaign and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, conducted a working visit to Vitebsk State Medical University, during which the effectiveness of targeted training for the Belarusian healthcare system was assessed.
The Chairperson of the State Commission familiarized herself with the university's operations, its achievements in scientific and educational activities, as well as the progress of the admission campaign.
Natalia Petkevich particularly emphasized the importance of targeted training as a means of connecting practice and education.
“Targeted training is a very important tool from the perspective of workforce preparation because it addresses the immediate task of establishing a link between practice and education right at the stage of training future specialists,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister. “This means that an organization interested in a particular specialist sends its representative, understanding that this will be practice-oriented education, and the individual will receive a guaranteed job.”
In the medical field, targeted training is especially in demand for two reasons: its practical orientation and the constant need for personnel.
“First of all, this is one of those fields where practical orientation is more important than ever. People entering this sector must clearly understand that they are prepared for this and will be able to realize themselves as specialists who apply the knowledge they have acquired in practice. Secondly, this sector almost always faces staffing shortages due to an aging population, the worsening of certain diseases, and other factors,” emphasized Natalia Petkevich.
