The Republican Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Topical Issues of Pediatric Practice,” dedicated to the memory of Professor I.M. Lysenko and the 90th anniversary of the Department of Pediatrics, was held on September 18 at Vitebsk State Medical University.
University Rector Aleksey Chukanov, opening the solemn event, emphasized that a practice-oriented approach is the direct foundation of the successful work of VSMU’s Faculty of Pediatrics and aligns with the modern priorities of medical development in our country.
Vice-Rector for Research Elena Asiryan drew the audience’s attention to the significant contribution of Professor I.M. Lysenko in mentoring the younger generation of scientists and physicians. Chief Physician of the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Center, Galina Puzanova, expressed gratitude to the staff of the pediatrics faculty departments for their many years of fruitful cooperation in healthcare and their careful preservation of traditions established by generations of outstanding doctors and educators. Head of the Department of Pediatrics No. 2 with the course of professional development and advanced training, Lyudmila Zhuravleva, acquainted conference guests with the history of the Vitebsk pediatric school and particularly thanked the department veterans who made significant contributions to the development of pediatric science and practice.
This conference brought together scientists not only from the Republic of Belarus but also from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan. The scientific program included a wide range of presentations on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of childhood diseases. Five scientific sessions were held, covering pressing issues in pediatrics, neonatology, and the medical and social rehabilitation of the pediatric population. Special attention was paid to the scientific achievements of young VSMU researchers, whose presentations were united for the first time in a dedicated section called the “Young Scientists Club.”
As numerous conference guests noted, a defining characteristic of the VSMU pediatric school today is its respect for the past, its educators, and its traditions, which once again underscores the correctness of the development direction of the VSMU pedagogical school and pediatric service as a whole. Undoubtedly, combined with modern technologies, a practice-oriented approach to training students and trainees, close professional collaboration with healthcare practitioners, and an interdisciplinary approach to solving many scientific and pedagogical challenges, this corresponds to the development vector of the Republic of Belarus.
