The annual “Sri Lankan Night”, the most anticipated event of the Sri Lankan students in VSMU was held on Sunday, the 27th of March, at the resort “Verasy” located a few kilometers away from the city.
With the participation of around 500 students from Sri Lanka, Maldives and some from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, I must admit that it was one of the most amazing and glamorous gala events I’ve witnessed.
The comperes announced the Starting of the proceedings at 6.30. It started off with a series of performances of dancing and singing by our very own students in different courses which grabbed the attention of everyone. Also, there were few games organized for the participants which made the event even more lively.
In the mean time they started serving dinner. “Kottu”, a world-renowned Sri Lankan delight was served for everyone, followed by cakes for dessert. The food was so delicious. The ability of the students to prepare food for such a big crowd has to be appreciated.
After the performances and dinner, the hall simply turned into disco until the event was over at 11.30. There was nothing but smiles, laughs and happiness around the corner.
The event was organised by the Sri Lankan Medical Students’ Union of VSMU, headed by Nishen Ratnayake the President. His team- the committee for the year comprising of students of the 5th course and the whole 5th year batch worked immensely hard in making the event a success.
