Vitebsk State Medical University is implementing a joint educational project by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, called "Start the Heart", aimed at 10th-grade students in general secondary education institutions.
This year, the organizers have decided to significantly expand the training program. In addition to basic skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, students will now learn first aid algorithms for common everyday incidents: injuries, fractures, and bleeding.
Classes are conducted at the VSMU simulation and certification center under the guidance of experienced specialists. The training lasts 1.5 hours and is designed to maximize practical engagement: 30 minutes are dedicated to theoretical knowledge, while the remaining time focuses on practicing techniques and consolidating skills.
Particular emphasis is placed on modeling emergency situations. Using modern dummy simulators and specialized equipment, students practice the full algorithm of actions when encountering an unconscious victim — from calling an ambulance promptly to performing indirect heart massage and artificial respiration. Professional feedback and real-time problem-solving help students not only master the techniques but also prepare psychologically for real emergencies.
