On June 9, 2026, Vitebsk State Medical University hosted a meeting between University Rector Alexey Chukanov and students of Astana Medical University (Kazakhstan).
The event was the final chord of the two-week internship of international students at the clinical bases of the university.
For more than 14 days, future doctors from Kazakhstan immersed themselves in the educational and clinical process of one of the oldest medical institutions in Belarus.
The internship program, organized within the framework of cooperation between partner universities, proved to be rich and productive.
The guests from Astana not only got acquainted with the university's infrastructure, but also actively participated in practical work. Students took part in morning rounds of patients together with Vitebsk colleagues, learned to analyze the clinical picture and, under the guidance of experienced mentors, tried their hand at making preliminary diagnoses.
In addition to working in hospitals, the internship program included visits to Vitebsk city polyclinics, which allowed the guests to evaluate the outpatient system of the Belarusian healthcare system.
International students also got acquainted with the material and technical base of VSMU, its scientific laboratories and its rich history.
At a meeting with the university administration, which was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, students from Astana shared their impressions of the work done. They noted the high professionalism of Vitebsk doctors, the well-equipped clinics and the warm welcome.
The Rector of VSMU, in turn, stressed the importance of such exchanges for the training of international medical personnel and expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation between universities.
The parties agreed to continue the clinical internship program in the coming academic year.
