On June 18, 2026, Vitebsk State Medical University hosted a Single information Day "Memory for the Future", dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War. Ivan Martinkevich, Deputy Dean of the Pediatrics Faculty for Ideological and Educational Work, Associate Professor of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, delivered a report to the university staff.
In his speech, he focused on the upcoming memorable date — June 22, which is celebrated in our country as the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian people.
Ivan Martinkevich reminded the audience of the tragic events of 1941, when exactly 85 years ago, Nazi Germany invaded the territory of the Soviet Union without declaring war. He stressed that Belarus, which took upon itself one of the most powerful first blows of the enemy, will forever preserve in its history the memory of the heroism and colossal sacrifices of the military generation.
During the Single Information Day, special attention was paid to the preservation of historical truth, perpetuating the memory of the dead and countering attempts to revise the results of the war and distort historical facts. The participants also discussed the importance of passing on reliable knowledge about the events of those years to future generations.
