On June 26, 2026, representatives of the youth wing of the Belarusian Union of Women, the primary organization of the Republican Public Association "Patriots of Belarus", the Belarusian Republican Youth Union of Vitebsk State Medical University, as well as the Vitebsk City Organization named after N.A. Yanov of the Belarusian Union of Officers visited the Afghan veteran, retired Major Vyacheslav Gursky and congratulated him. Happy City Day. The meeting was held in a warm, homely atmosphere.
The veteran served as chief of the Air Force Communications Forces of the 40th Army in Afghanistan, was awarded the Order of the Red Star, the Orders "For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" II and III degrees and the Order of the Red Banner of the Republic of Afghanistan. In 1981, he participated in the parade on Red Square. Vyacheslav Marianovich is the grandfather of Daria, a university student who also attended the meeting.
The youth prepared poems and songs, and the meeting culminated in a chess game that the veteran played with his granddaughter Daria. Such lively conversations and communication keep generations connected and convey the truth about the war first-hand.
