On July 18, 2026, VSMU hosted a working meeting between University Rector Alexey Chukanov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Ignatius Graham Mudzimba.
The meeting took place within the framework of the diplomat's visit to Vitebsk and was devoted to the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of higher medical education and healthcare.
Opening the meeting, Rector Alexey Chukanov welcomed the distinguished guest and noted that VSMU has extensive experience in training international students. He stressed that the university is interested in expanding international cooperation, especially with African countries, and is ready to offer quality education in high-demand medical specialties to Zimbabwean students.
In turn, Mr. Ignatius Graham Mudzimba, who is Zimbabwe's first resident ambassador to Belarus, expressed interest in deepening cooperation between the two countries in the educational field. The Ambassador stressed that the acquired Belarusian knowledge and experience will allow Zimbabwean specialists to make a significant contribution to the development of the healthcare system of their homeland.
The parties discussed the prospects of increasing quotas for the education of Zimbabwean students at VSMU, as well as the possibility of organizing internships and advanced training for medical professionals from Zimbabwe at the university. Special attention was paid to the issues of academic exchange and joint scientific research in the field of medicine.
The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. It resulted in an agreement to prepare specific proposals for expanding cooperation between Vitebsk State Medical University and medical institutions and universities in Zimbabwe.
