The New Academic Year Begins at VSMU

The ceremonial raising of the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus marked the beginning of the new academic year at Vitebsk State Medical University. This event, which has already become a good tradition, brought together everyone for whom Knowledge Day symbolizes new beginnings: the university administration, students, teaching staff and employees.

University Rector Alexey Chukanov addressed those gathered with welcoming remarks. He congratulated the students and staff on the beginning of the academic year and offered words of encouragement to the new generation of medical students.

The honour of raising the country’s main symbol was given to Arseny Tsygankov, Senior Lecturer at the Military Department, as well as to students who had achieved outstanding academic results and demonstrated active involvement in university life.

The highlight of the event was the awards ceremony. University volunteers and activists received letters of appreciation from the Rector for their active assistance in organizing the admission campaign and helping students move into university dormitories. In addition, following the results of the 2025/2026 academic year, the best students were recognized for outstanding achievements in research, education and social activities.
