On September 1, Vitebsk Concert Hall hosted a ceremonial event organized by Vitebsk State Medical University to mark Knowledge Day. The celebration, dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year, brought together distinguished guests, university leadership, teaching staff and those for whom this day marked the starting point of a great future – first-year students.
The gathering was addressed with welcoming remarks by Alexey Guida, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee; Archbishop Dimitry of Vitebsk and Orsha; and Alexey Chukanov, Rector of VSMU. Their speeches were filled with warm wishes and wise words of encouragement for first-year students embarking on the noble path of medicine and pharmacy. The newcomers were encouraged to continuously pursue knowledge and strive for outstanding achievements in mastering their future professions.
The highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial initiation of the students. The former applicants received symbolic keys to their future professions: the “Doctor’s Primer”, the “Pharmacist’s Primer”, the “Dentist’s Primer” and the “Paediatrician’s Primer”. The student ID cards signed by the Rector became their first, albeit symbolic, documents confirming their new status.
The ceremony was made particularly solemn by the First-Year Students’ Oath – heartfelt words they pledged in the presence of their mentors and fellow students, promising to honourably uphold the high status of being a student at one of the country’s leading medical universities.
The evening concluded on a high note with performances by the VSMU Student Club’s creative groups. Energetic dance and vocal performances brought a wave of positive emotions to everyone in attendance.
Filled with hope and new beginnings, this day will remain forever in the students’ memories as a bright starting point for an academic year full of discoveries, achievements and limitless opportunities.
