VSMU Student Project “Restoration of Churches in the Vitebsk Region”

vosstanovleniye khramov Vitebshchiny 01In the 2026/2027 academic year, work continued on the VSMU student innovative project “Restoration of Churches in the Vitebsk Region”, aimed at engaging young people in studying the history and culture of Belarus and preserving Orthodox spiritual traditions.

As part of the project, its participants developed unique excursion routes across the Vitebsk Region featuring the region’s ancient churches.

On September 5, the project participants visited churches in Vitebsk as well as the Abode of Mercy in the village of Berniki, Vitebsk District. The students learned about the history of the city and its beautiful architecture and helped clean the grounds of the Abode of Mercy. During their summer holidays, they also visited the Church of the Prophet Elijah in Beshenkovichi, as well as the Churches of St. Seraphim of Sarov and the Nativity of the Mother of God in the village of Svecha, Beshenkovichi District, where they took part in a charitable clean-up initiative.
