On September 25, 2026, the ceremonial opening of a branch of Department of Pediatrics No. 2 with a course in Advanced Training and Professional Development of Vitebsk State Medical University took place at the Mogilev Regional Children's Hospital.
The event was opened by Elena Leonidovna Bogdan, First Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus. In her address, she emphasized the need to strengthen the connection between science and practice. According to her, integrating the educational process with clinical activities is a key condition for training highly qualified medical professionals and improving the quality of medical care provided to the population.
Continuing the discussion of interaction between science and practice, Alexey Chukanov, Rector of Vitebsk State Medical University, emphasized: “Today's event symbolizes a strong alliance between science and practice. Combining the academic potential of the country's leading medical university with the extensive practical experience of the largest children's hospital in the Mogilev region is a step toward the future. It will make it possible to train highly qualified specialists of a new generation and introduce the most modern treatment methods for young patients into clinical practice.”
The red ribbon symbolizing the beginning of the new unit's work was cut by Valery Malashko, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Health, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus; Vladimir Gatsko, Head of the Main Healthcare Department of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee; Alexey Chukanov, Rector of VSMU; Igor Kasko, Chief Physician of the Mogilev Regional Children's Hospital; and Lyudmila Zhuravleva, Head of Department of Pediatrics No. 2 with a course in Advanced Training and Professional Development at VSMU.
With the opening of the branch, its active practical work begins in several key areas, including education, healthcare and research. In particular, the branch will provide medical care, conduct medical assessments, and carry out consultative, educational-methodological and research activities.
The implementation of these areas will improve the practical training of young specialists and contribute to the introduction of modern scientific developments into everyday clinical practice.
