As part of the investigation by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus into a criminal case concerning the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period, on September 29, 2026, staff members, representatives of public associations, and first- and second-year students visited a site of mass killing and burial of victims — a burial pit containing the remains of hundreds of murdered civilians in the agricultural town of Smolyany, Orsha District.
Igor Metelitsa, Head of the Department for Supervision over Compliance with Legislation in the Armed Forces, told those present about the progress and results of the criminal investigation, as well as about preserving historical memory and the ideological continuity of generations.
Participants honored the memory of those who died with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the burial pit.
