On October 15, 2026, Vitebsk State Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical University and the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel of the State Forensic Examination Committee of the Republic of Belarus signed a cooperation agreement. Participants included the heads of the institutions and invited specialists: the VSMU delegation led by Rector Alexey Chukanov, and the State Committee delegation led by the country’s chief forensic medical expert, Yuri Ovsyuk, and Institute Rector Sergey Yevmenenko.
The agreement sets out specific steps for joint activities in training and professional development for forensic medical experts, organizing research, and exchanging experience. Its main goal is to provide future experts with a strong fundamental foundation by combining the university’s academic potential with the practical needs of the forensic examination system.
VSMU Rector Alexey Chukanov described the agreement as a timely step prompted by current realities. According to him, both medicine and forensic examination need specialists of a fundamentally new level. With its strong scientific and clinical resources, the university is ready to contribute to their training.
Sergey Yevmenenko, Rector of the Institute for Advanced Training, emphasized the practical value of the agreement. He noted that the Institute wants students to acquire not only specialized professional skills but also in-depth fundamental knowledge. In his view, VSMU is the right place to establish this foundation.
