Visit of UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus, Rasul Bagirov, to VSMU

On September 5, 2025, Vitebsk State Medical University was honored to host Rasul Bagirov, the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus. His visit turned the university into a platform for meaningful dialogue about global challenges and the vital role of healthcare professionals in the modern world.

During the meeting between Rector Alexey Chukhanov and Mr. Bagirov, as well as a subsequent discussion with students on the topic "The Role of Medical Education in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals," the rector highlighted Belarus’s successes in reaching these goals. He emphasized that these achievements are a result of well-planned state social policies and the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Health to improve the healthcare system and medical education in the country.

Happy 90th birthday to Mikhail Alexandrovich Nikolsky!

Today, September 4th, Mikhail Alexandrovich Nikolsky celebrates his 90th birthday. A former juvenile prisoner, veteran of VSMU, and esteemed professor.

On this remarkable occasion, Mikhail Alexandrovich was congratulated by the VSMU administration, leaders of the veterans’ council, the trade union organization of staff, and the primary organization of the Belarusian Women’s Union.

Mikhail Alexandrovich Nikolsky devoted 40 years to his beloved Vitebsk State Medical University. Throughout his career, he held various positions, including Head of the Department of Traumatology, Dean of the Faculty for Overseas Students Training, Dean of the General Medicine Faculty, and Vice-Rector for Academic Work.

The ceremonial event dedicated to Knowledge Day at VSMU

On September 2, 2025, the Summer Amphitheater became the epicenter of a festive atmosphere. A ceremonial event dedicated to Knowledge Day took place here, this year held under the inspiring motto “University of Great Opportunities.”

The celebration brought together the entire large and friendly university family. Attendees included the university rector Aleksei Chukanov, vice-rectors, deans, the teaching staff, and, of course, the main stars of the event – students, whose eyes sparkled with curiosity and anticipation of a new stage in their lives.

Participation of the VSMU Delegation in the Regional Pedagogical Conference

On August 22, the regional pedagogical conference titled "On the work of the education system of Vitebsk Region in the Year of Beautification and Priority Tasks of the Five-Year Quality Plan" was held. The event was attended by Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin; Presidential Assistant-Inspector for Vitebsk Region, Vladimir Yurgievich; and Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vyacheslav Durnov.

Representing VSMU at the conference were First Vice-Rector Alina Shchupakova and Dean of the Faculty of Additional Education, Elena Gusakova.

VSMU Staff Continue Outreach Efforts to Improve Access to Medical Care in Regional Areas

In order to provide organizational, methodological, and consultative assistance to the population, university faculty members conducted visits to district healthcare institutions in the Mogilev region: on August 12, 2025, at the Kostyukovichi Central District Hospital; and on August 14, 2025, at the Shklov Central District Hospital.

During these outreach activities, consultative assistance was provided to patients in the fields of oncology, surgery, and surgical dentistry.
