On July 2, 2024, a solemn ceremony of raising the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus was held at Vitebsk State Medical University, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

The event was attended by the members of the rector's office, faculty, staff and students of the university.

The VSMU Rector Alexey Nikolaevich Chukanov addressed those present with a welcoming speech.

The honorary right to raise the National Flag of the Republic of Belarus was granted to the laureates of special funds of the President of the Republic of Belarus for social support of gifted pupils and students, for the support of talented youth Fomichev Nazar, a 1st year student of the Faculty of Medicine and Dzhanoyan Alena, a 1st year student of the Faculty of Pediatrics; an excellent student undergoing final practice in the reserve officer training program Amirov Orkhan, a 4th year student at the Faculty of Medicine.

During the period from October 31 to November 1, 2016, a volleyball tournament among men’s and women’s teams of VSMU hostels was held in the small gym within the frameworks of the XX International Creativity Festival of medical students "VSMU-2016 Student autumn".

The university always supports bright, talented and enterprising students! Such is the founder of the cheerleading squad Astashenok Ekaterina, a 4^th - year student of the group 24 of the General Medicine Faculty.

We asked Ekaterina to share the story of how the team was created:

“Each of us at least once in our lives watched films about schoolchildren and noticed that the most popular and charming girls are members of the support group, the so-called cheerleaders. Their incendiary performances, bright fluffy pom-poms, and acrobatic stunts - all this evoked no less emotions and inspiration from the public than the game itself.

Since our university has teams almost in all kinds of sports, we had a crazy idea. With support and help of our leadership, it was decided to create the same bright team.”

XVI International scientific-practical conference of students and young scientists "Student medical science of XXI century" was held on 2-3 November 2016. The conference was attended by 1370 students and young scientists from Vitebsk State Medical University, Belarusian State Medical University, GomSMU, GrSMU and also from universities of the Russian Federation (Moscow, Smolensk, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Samara, Ryazan, Tver, Ufa, Cheboksary) and Ukraine (Kiev, Kharkov).
